Bancho is one of the main supporting characters in Dave the Diver.

Gameplay[]

Bancho is the chef of Bancho Sushi, a restaurant built by Cobra. Alongside Dave and Yoshie, the four run the business, with Dave responsible for catching the fish, Bancho for preparing the restaurant's dishes, Yoshie for hiring new Staff and Cobra managing the business and issues that arise.

Biography[]

Bancho is very serious when it comes to learning culinary techniques and new flavor profiles, practicing constantly to improve his skills. He furthered his skills in Japan and worked at a number of top-tier sushi establishments, but never stayed at any one place for too long as, once he felt he learned all there was to learn from the place, he moved on to the next.

One day, he appeared at the 5-star establishment, Dugong Hotel, with his resume and was soon hired on, where he was managed by Yoshie. While he proved he was a superb chef within a year and had his food featured in an overseas magazine, even the hotel manager was reluctant to allow Bancho to cater to a special VIP and known food critic, actress Lois Crawford, as Bancho was so dedicated to his craft, he never really considered the preferences of his customers and instead created dishes he felt would be inspiring. However, as the rest of their cuisine choices had complications so they couldn't be offered, Yoshie decided to let Bancho cook for Crawford but to keep the menu "tame". Bancho, despite wishing to instead serve shark head, reluctantly agreed to stick to shrimp tempura as the main dish.

When Crawford appeared and was served her meal, she voiced her disapproval of it, noting how ordinary it was. Not happy with this rating, especially as it didn't really showcase his skills, Bancho spoke up, revealing he had also prepared Whole-Roasted Shark Head in secret, just in case she found the normal meal boring. However, instead of trying it, Crawford was immediately disgusted by the look of the dish as it was an entire shark's head. Bancho insisted she'd love it, but Crawford refused to try it and immediately left. Bancho himself quit right after and also left, noting he needed to train.

12 years later, he'd setup Bancho Sushi with Cobra, running it as the head chef and serving up unique dishes. Yoshie, working as a recruiter, appeared at the establishment and remarked on the incident with the actress. Bancho convinced Yoshie he was right 12 years ago by serving the shark head dish to Yoshie to try. Amazed at the dish's flavor and complexity, Yoshie decided to help out the restaurant by helping to recruit new staff.

Appearance[]

Bancho's debut in Dave the Diver is in the beginning prologue, when Cobra brings in Dave to Bancho Sushi.

Bancho is disappointed in Dave's tastes in sushi being basic, explaining the spiritual part of sushi, the combination of the soul of the sea and land. Bancho then goes on to a boisterous rant, one of the few times he gets emotional while speaking of his life mission to bring the taste of the possible combinations that mother nature has to offer for everyone. The speech gets interrupted by a tremor that heavily damages the interior of the restaurant.

To finance the repairs, Bancho tells Dave to go and catch more fish as the few he got is not enough to serve and make enough money in the evening when they will open the restaurant. As Dave questions the decision to only open in the evenings, Bancho continues his speech of his duty as a chef to have enough time to prepare the best possible food with meticulous precision.

On the evening after the Giant Squid feast, Bancho calls Dave to come to the restaurant due to a strange customer, Otto.
