Aberrations or aberrant fish are a unique type of fish in Dave the Diver that was added on with the free December 15 DREDGE DLC content update. They refer to sea species that have strangely mutated or changed in some bizarre way.
Gameplay[]
Once the DLC content is activated and installed, a yellow, aberrated fish icon will appear on subsequent save files to indicate the DLC is active.
From that point forward, the game will proceed like normal until a thick fog occurs (this can also be checked for ahead of time via the Weather app on the phone). When night falls for the first thick fog in game, a Travelling Merchant will appear and explain about the aberrated fish and how to go about getting them. You'll then be able to select "Explore" at the ship's wheel to sail around the Blue Hole. There will be 2 main points of interest:
- Vortexes, which indicate where you can dive for aberrant fish
- Air bubbles, which indicate places for valuables
Note that the rule still applies that you can only dive one time at night and it takes up a third of your night shift hours in the restaurant. Also keep in mind it's best to first do any air bubbles where you can dredge before diving, as once you come back up from the dive you can't explore any further that night.
Locations[]
There are three different aberrant fish spots, each with their own unique fish to catch:
- Fog Coast
- Black Cliff
- Jellyfish Basin

Restaurant[]
On these nights, Bancho Sushi will still serve regular customers, but special Hooded Figures will also appear that order only aberrant fish, and likewise the regular customers won't order these, so you'll need to make sure you have at least one dish on the menu for each group. Due to the unique nature of aberrations, they can't be saved so any leftover from the night will be bought by the Travelling Merchant.
Max Profit Tips[]
Important! Always salvage the places marked with Air bubbles before you dive, as you will not be able to do so after diving and some items collected through dredging can be worth 10,000 gold when sold at Cobra's shop.
Like other Fish, aberrations give more meat when captured alive. So it's best to sedate them using a Modified Hush Dart, Tranquilizer Gas Bomb Launcher, or Sticky Tranquilizing Bomb Gun or entangle them using a Net Gun. However, large aberrations cannot be caught in a net, so tranquilizing and drone recovery is required for best collection numbers. Maximizing inventory space is essential, so equip the Eco Waterproof Bag if you have it. Also remember that aberrations that swim deeper are typically a higher rank and thus more valuable, so those should be your priority until you pick up all of them.
If you also intend to catch aberrated crabs using your Crab Traps then you can use Purple Sea Urchins as bait if you do not wish to waste any other aberrations for it.
Once Dave's inventory is full and you caught all the fish that require the Drone to pick up, go to the surface and put the most valuable aberration on the menu on auto supply along with something for the other customers. This should earn you 40-50k $ with ease, not counting other valuables you may have picked up before diving. Excess ingredients will be sold to the Travelling Merchant at the end of the shift for a considerable amount as well, avoid overfilling your menu and wasting ingredients.
It should be noted that unlike all "special events" the hooded figures will not visit the branch if you opened it, which is also why none of the aberrations can be delivered there.
